View of Thomond Bridge and King John’s Castle, Limerick, across the River Shannon, with index. In the foreground, just downriver from the viewpoint, there is a rowing boat. Beyond it, the entire width of the image is occupied by the multi-arched bridge, featuring a castellated gateway, portcullis and what appears to be a movable section near its centre. Several figures with lances are seen to the right of the watch-house. Prominent behind the bridge are the towers of the castle, beyond which is the square tower of the cathedral.

King John also built the Castle. [pp. 124-125]
