Ross Castle is now converted in barracks for the soldiers of which some are always in garrison here.
Innisfallen is the largest Island except, Ross I. It consists of 28 acres finely wooded, and is situated nearly in the middle of the lake. The remains of an old Abbey upon an elevated point at one end of it give a venerable air to the spot. It now serves as a place of refreshment to those whose curiosity brings them here to view the charming prospects which this isle commands on every side. It has many beauties in itself a fine diversity of lawn amidst trees of all sorts, most of them finely grown, & some venerably in decay. The view towards Ross Castle with Mangerton towering above it is very beautiful – and of Tomies and well wooded Glena &c. is very fine and picturesque. [Unpaginated]
