| Biographical Notes | Irish playwright and journalist. Originally a lawyer, after the success of his first plays from 1835, he moved to London and established himself in the literary circles. He was among the creators of Punch magazine, and the drama critic for the London Times. He also contributed to commissioned works, such as the Scenery and Antiquities of Ireland. He played an important role in the British dramatic copyright movement. |
