View of Howth Castle and grounds. There is a lady in the left foreground holding a parasol. She is standing with a dog and a child who is looking over at three servants. One, apparently a gardener, is leaning on a shovel, while another is seated on a wooden barrow. Two figures are sitting on a garden seat on the terrace to the right of the main entrance. Two other figures are seen under an arched entrance to the building in the right background. A row of six cannons is set out before a square area (or formal ornamental water feature) with paved surround and urns at each corner.
