Street view of South Gate Bridge, Cork, with its three arches intact, from the southern side of the River Lee. Small fishing skiffs and larger sailing boats are moored in the foreground or on the left close to the steps descending from the bridge. Taller masts can be seen downriver, beyond the bridge. On the right, a man and a woman, with a dog, are positioned close to the low wall between the road and the river, where creels and fishing equipment are stacked. Along the road behind them a variety of houses can be seen, with various figures and vehicles.<br>An oval oil painting of this scene by Thomas Creswick, ca 1836, is held in the National Museums Liverpool, Sudley House.

Leaving Bantry for Cork, the traveller will at once lose the fine scenery he has for some time past enjoyed; and, although in the interval between Skibbereen and Ross there are some good views, the journey generally is deficient in interest.
