| Description of Travel Account | Journal of a tour to Connemara by Thomas Colville Scott, a Scottish surveyor who visited the region in February/March 1853 for the purpose of surveying the Martin Estate. This two hundred thousand acre property, belonged at the time to the London Law Life Insurance Society, and Colville Scott’s survey was undertaken on behalf of a syndicate of prospective buyers. The volume contains observations about the people and occurrences the author encountered during his tour, and 16 pencil drawings. The manuscript surfaced at an auction in 1994, in England, and a modern edition has been compiled and edited by Tim Robinson (A Survey of the Martin Estate. Dublin: The Lilliput Press, 1995).
